Unclogging Cork Drains

A Blocked Drain, WC, Sink, Sewer, Bath or Shower can ruin your day. Luckily, there are some simple home remedies you can use to clear the blockage, without having to buy expensive and toxic drain cleaners.

Start by running a hot pan of water on the stove, or filling a bucket or deep pan with boiling water. Next, pour the hot water down the drain. This can help loosen up the clog, so you can pull it out with your hand or a pair of pliers (be sure to use gloves).

If this does not work, try using a drain snake. This is a coil of heavy wire with a cork screw on the end that you feed into your toilet pipe via the toilet bowl. Once the cork screw reaches your blockage, turn the handle on the drain snake to twist it into the clog, which should break it up and allow the water to flow.

This is a potentially messy and least effective method, so only use it as a last resort. If you are able to get your cork back into the bottle, be sure to let it sit upright for several minutes before returning it to storage. This will give the cork time to reseal, which may reduce the amount of wine that drips after accessing it.

It may be necessary to remove the needle from the base of the Coravin system before using this technique. This is especially true for older or cold wines, as these are more likely to experience a loss of elasticity after being accessed.

Once the needle is removed, Debouchage liege place it in a clean container for storing. It is important that you use a clean needle for each bottle. This will prevent the needle from becoming clogged with cork particles, which can cause it to be difficult or impossible to insert.

Keeping your Cork floor clean is the best way to maintain its beauty. Sweep it regularly with a soft-bristled broom or dust mop, and occasionally with a stronger treatment (such as wood floor cleaner). This will help prevent dirt, grit, and other debris from scratching and gouging your cork floor.

If you don't want to invest in a Corkscrew, it is possible to open the wine with a knife or screw and a hammer. However, this is a risky and ineffective method for opening bottles that have been opened several times. If you are unable to open the wine in this manner, we recommend that you put a new cork in the bottle or pour the remaining contents into a container with a lid for storage.

The needle on the Coravin system can be used hundreds of times before it will become clogged with cork fragments. It is important that you use the needle clearing tool regularly to remove these fragments, and to replace the needle when it becomes worn. These are available from your local retailer or online.
