Keeping Kids Safe at the Playground

Playgrounds are places where children can run, jump, climb and slide. They also provide a safe environment for playing with friends, so it’s important to keep them well-maintained. The playground equipment must meet safety standards set by the Canadian Standards Association and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

There are many things that can go wrong at a playground, from vandalism to minor wear to long-term structural problems. Taking a close look at your equipment and performing regular inspections can help keep kids safe.

Routine Inspection of Playgrounds

Every year, all playgrounds should be inspected by a certified playground safety inspector (CPSI) who can help to identify and report on any hazards that may exist. Several organizations offer this service, including insurance companies, playground equipment manufacturers and commercial playground inspection companies.

You can find a list of 검증놀이터 CPSIs on the RoSPA website. They can also provide recommendations on how to best carry out your inspection.

Do Your Research Before Making a Purchase

Before you make a purchasing decision, do your homework and look for customer reviews. This will give you a better idea of the product’s quality and will give you an added layer of security in your decision-making process.

Ensure that the playground equipment is made of quality materials and is firmly installed in the ground. This is especially important for preschool and larger-sized playground equipment that may have deep, soft fill material.

Good playground surfaces are based on sand, wood chips and synthetic (man-made) materials that are soft to absorb a child’s fall and help prevent injuries. These materials must be at least 15 cm (6 inches) deep for preschool equipment and 30 cm (12 inches) deep for full-sized equipment.

The ground should be free of trash, glass, animal feces or debris that could get in the way of children using the playground equipment. The surface should also be level and free of cracks.

Use Resilient Safety Surfacing

Most Cosumnes CSD parks were designed with poured in place resilient safety surfacing that uses rubber or thermoplastic to create a clean and colorful surface that surrounds the play equipment. Unfortunately, this surfacing material has deteriorated very quickly over the years and requires constant maintenance to remain attractive and functional.

To prevent deterioration, Cosumnes CSD is currently planning to replace all parks with Engineered Wood Fiber safety surfacing that is more durable and requires less maintenance than poured in place surfacing.

A Certified Playground Safety Inspector can help you to design a safe and effective playground with the right equipment for your space.

Checking User Email Verification

If you’re developing a site that requires users to sign up, it’s a good idea to test user email verification. This involves sending a random code to the user’s email address and asking them to enter this code on a confirmation page. This feature is common in modern applications and can be used as a test to ensure that the site’s login form is secure.
